Saturday (8/18) 600 Sprint Recap

8/18/2019: Just as we saw on Friday night, the cream of the crop made it to victory lane last night. Cody Hauck, Aaron Bollinger, Alec Quiggle and Jimmy Glenn continued their dominant ways while we did see a new face in victory lane with Brett Altemose at GVAT. Here are the recaps from those races.

GVAT: Right before the 600 wingless feature went on the track, drivers were thrown a curveball as the track was reworked while they pulled onto the grid. That didn’t phase Brett Altemose at all as he rocketed right to the lead with Mark Sokol closely behind him. Altemose who has been improving over the last few weeks was holding off all of Sokol’s challenges as the two ran away from the field. Back in the field Will Butler was battling through the field from deep in the pack to try to make it two in a row at GVAT. Altemose would start to put some distance on Sokol until a caution with five laps to go. On the restart Altemose would rocket to the lead as Altemose’s teammate Stephen Weirich would challenge Sokol for the 2nd spot but when all was set and done, Altemose would get his first win on the 2019 season as Sokol would hold on for 2nd, Weirich 3rd, Josh Chess 4th and Butler would climb to 5th by the end of the race. In winged action, Rob Pajauis would start on the pole and get the early jump on the field.

Behind Pajauis there was quite the scramble between Cody Hauck, Quinn Roberts, Mike Koehler and Tyson Mowery. Hauck would eventually win that battle after coming from the 5th starting position and would challenge Pajauis as he was trying to get his 2nd win of the year. Multiple cautions would regroup the field and allow Hauck to get to Pajauis’ back bumper and then would make the pass for the win on lap 8. Once in the lead Hauck would put some distance on the field until cautions would regroup the field but in the last green flag run, Hauck would in by 1.5 seconds. Roberts would get by Pajauis late for 2nd as Pajauis claimed 3rd, while Mike Koehler and Eric Ankiewicz would round out the top 5.

Lanco: Earlier in the week we talked to Aaron Bollinger on our radio show No Consolations and he talked us through what he would had to do to win the championship at Lanco. Bollinger did everything he needed last night to ensure that plan stayed in tact as he would take the win last night for the 2nd consecutive weekend. Bollinger would start on the front row with Austin Quick and would get the jump on Quick at the green. Even though Bollinger would get the early lead, Quick wasn’t going away. Behind the two drivers, the other drivers of interest in the points battle, Mike Rutherford and Heath Hehnly started in the latter half of the top 10 but were not a factor to get to Bollinger all race. Quick would try to get a run on Bollinger but Bollinger would fend off all advances and get the win over Quick, Ryan Groff, Hehnly and Rutherford.

Path Valley: After Hayden Miller narrowed the points championship a little bit last week, Alec Quiggle needed a solid night to pad his point’s lead. Quiggle would start on the 2nd row but shot to the lead on the start. Zane Rudisill who started on the front row would keep Quiggle in check for the beginning of the race but would steadily increase his lead as the race went on. Behind Quiggle he had to keep his eye on Hayden Miller as Miller would have to work his way up front from mid pack. Miller was quick but just could not get a caution to get him within eyesight of Quiggle. The race went on with few cautions and Quiggle would go on to win by almost 3 seconds over Rudisill, Randy Kunkle, Jeff Weaver and Miller.

Airport: We have not gotten much data out of Airport but we did see that Jimmy Glenn got his 7th win of the year at the track. Reference their FB page later for the full report.
